Presentation Summary:
We invite you to join this informational and collaborative discussion to review industrial stormwater compliance priorities from two different enforcement perspectives.
Sarah will provide the nonprofit perspective on citizen enforcement of the IGP in the Southern California region. The discussion will cover topics including what tools Coastkeeper uses to investigate compliance with the IGP prior to initiating an enforcement action, strategic litigation to promote industry-wide compliance, and red flags that indicate issues of noncompliance with the IGP. The discussion will conclude with some suggestions for facility staff and consultants responsible for carrying out the IGP to aid in compliance and avoid receiving a 60-day notice letter from Coastkeeper.
Salvador will review the State Water Resources Control Board’s perspective of IGP enforcement, authority through the Clean Water Act, and their current priorities related to the IGP and next reissuance of the permit. He will also provide general statistics of permit participation since Senate Bill 205 became effective and provide an overview of Permit implementation requirements including Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) requirements, monitoring requirements, reporting, and Compliance Options.
